We'd say under 5Mb isn't enough, 10Mb is manageable for 2-3 users, but often at low speeds the upload can be a bigger issue, especially with Zoom and Teams. 30Mbs is probably sufficient for most people, but you need at least 5Mb of upload to pair it with. If you're want real time stream CCTV, heavy gaming, 4+ netflix HD streams then you're going to need 100Mb of download and 20Mb of upload, beyond that its going to shorten download times on the updates and downloads, but won't help much with Zoom and Netflix. Demand for bandwidth will grow overtime which is why we always offer the fastest possible type of broadband today so its one less thing for you to worry about.
Once of the main reasons we built this site was to distill the overly sponsored comparison sites which complicate matters by telling you who can offer you service and not what service is actually available to you. Unlike most sites we look at two things, firstly what Openreach/BT derived service you can have, whether its ADSL, ADSL2 ADSL2+, FTTC, G.Fast or FTTP, we also check with Virgin because in some areas Openreach haven't provided good service because Virgin got there first and then we tell you how much you'd actually get. We didn't think it was helpful knowing you're on a cabinet that has 80Mb/s FTTC but you're 3km from it so can't even get 1Mb, so we give you this info upfront.
